A world Maritime University (WMU) training course on Compliance, monitoring and enformecent (CME) under the ballast water managemet convention.

The course provides practical knowledge on approaches to Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement related to the implementation of the Ballast Water Management Convention. Enforcing ballast water management requirements typically involves flag and port state control authorities inspecting national and foreign ships, reviewing ballast water certificates and record books, boarding selected ships to review documents and inspect equipment, and upon occasion using sanctioning powers to detain or levy monetary penalties on vessels for failure to meet their legal obligations.

During the training course the participants will be able to learn from others, review and discuss jointly issues of common interest.

The 2 day course is based on a training package developed by the GloBallast Partnerships project in partnership with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Maritime University, with support from the TOTAL Foundation and the MPA of Singapore.

Date for the course: Spring 2012 (exact date to be determined)

Venue: World Maritime University in Malmö
